Peter Quinn was a keystone of the Scapes exhibition, where artists were invited to explore quasi-organic environments (gardens, ruins, hiking trails) and document the odd coupling of nature and culture. An aquarium is the ultimate structured environment: it is a piece of the sea taken out of context and given a support system. But the scenes unfolding within are happily ignorant of this fact. Quinn finds the mystery within the artificial, investing every one of his underwater landscapes with curious depth and majesty.
