Takato Watanabe (b. 1968)
“Blossoms”
Drawing on Japanese print traditions as well as modernist abstraction, this new work continues Watanabe’s interest in “curated natural forms.”
An earlier series, “Palace Gardens,” examined the nature and artifice of formal Japanese gardes. With “Blossoms,” Watanabe employs the photographic techniques of tight cropping and short depth of field to carefully extract organic graphic patterns.
