Nelson Hancock Gallery celebrates its first anniversary with "Traces of Devotion: Images of Sufi Burial Sites in Central Asia," a new photographic exhibition by Lisa Ross, showing from March 31 - May 8. In this body of work, Ross examines the inscription of religious practice onto the desert landscape in the Xinjiang region of the People’s Republic of China. Her ethereal images of the Muslim Uyghur community’s sacred shrines and burial sites incorporate both a meditative investigation into the specifics of a unique Islamic practice along with an eye for the subtle beauties of the desert landscape.
